The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, hosted by Nicki Minaj for the second consecutive year, kicked off Tuesday night at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
Taylor Swift led the nominations with eight, followed by Sza with six nominations. Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Sam Smith earned five VMA nominations each, while three artists tied with four apiece: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Blackpink and Shakira.

Swift has a chance to set a new record for Video of the Year wins if she does so a fourth time with a win for “Anti-Hero.” It’s a record she already holds: Swift became the first artist to win video of the year three times, when she won it last year for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).”

Diddy, who received the Global Icon Award, will perform a set from “The Love Album: Off the Grid” during the ceremony, marking his first VMA performance since 2005. Other performers include Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin and Stray Kids.
